About Essential Skills

It’s no secret…It's a tough world out there. Even the most highly skilled people will tell you that the demand to “keep up” gets more challenging every year. As a tradesperson, you need to be prepared - because if you aren’t, the next person will be.

Today's trades are much different and much more diverse than they were just ten short years ago, and the future promises even more change.

To keep up with these rapid changes, tradespeople need sound Essential Skills:  those basic skills that people need for work, learning and life.

Trade Essentials is a new program for people who are already working in a trade.  It is designed to help you improve the Essential Skills needed in your workplace so you are better prepared to advance in your career.  We can help you identify the skills you need to stay at the top of your trade and offer training to help you to develop those skills.

Trade Essentials may be just what you need to "write your own ticket".

At the present time, the Trade Essential staff is prepared to offer courses in the following trade areas, with others "under construction":

Automotive Service Technician; Cabinet Maker; Carpenter; Construction Electrician; Cook; Industrial Electrician; Machinist; Metal Fabricator; Plumber; Oil Burner Mechanic; Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic; Steamfitter/Pipefitter; Welder.
